1) Fill Up Before the Feast
I know you're supposed to come hungry for Thanksgiving dinner, but you want to to look thin the next day! So for heavens sake, snack before the big meal. Eat fruits & veggies or rice cakes that will take away your hunger but not stuff you. Green smoothies or fresh juices are a terrific choice, or raw veggies or a simple salad. If it's a long drive, grab a few apples or oranges or healthy snack bars for the road.
2) Carry Around A Pretty Water Goblet
Water may not be as festive or tasty as the other drinks that guests will be sipping, so make it glamorous by pouring it into a pretty glass or goblet. That way you'll feel better about drinking it all evening and saving your calories for the food.
3) Take A Small Plate
Everyone else will have a big plate that they will completely fill with food. Why don't you, being clever, take a small plate and fill it up with food? You'll eat a lot less, much slower, and feel full faster. When everyone else falls into a post Thanksgiving dinner coma on the couch after dinner, you'll be ready for a brisk walk!
4) Go Easy On The Carbs
Uh oh...here come the mashed potatoes! Yum! Try to have small portions of bread, potatoes, or carbs during dinner. I know it's hard, but do you know how stuffed you'll feel if you overeat these heavy starches? Here comes your willpower! Think of your skinny jeans. They don't like bread & potatoes!
5) Pass The Olive Oil
Yikes, butter can be dangerous. Especially when it's already hidden & mixed into mashed potatoes, pies, casseroles, etc. Avoid slathering on more butter by drizzling a little olive oil & salt and/or spices on instead.
.6) Try For a Slender Slice of Pie
Mmmmm...pumpkin pie!! Why do we only crave pumpkin pie during the holidays? Ever want pumpkin pie in July? That's funny isn't it! It's such a fall & winter pie because that's when pumpkins & squash ripen. Treat yourself to a piece, but try to make it skinny, and skip the whipped cream if you can. Or pass on some other fattening item during dinner and reward yourself with a bigger piece of pie for dessert. Calorie swapping! Smart. Or trick your taste buds into deciding against dessert by drinking some sugar masking Dessert Destroyer Tea after dinner. This amazing tea hides the sweet taste of food...it just takes it away!
.7) Plan Something Active & Fun the Next Day
Why not schedule something fun & aerobic the day after Thanksgiving? Like a new yoga class or going to the gym, playing tennis with a friend, or going on a bike ride? Nothing too strenuous, but an activity you'll look forward to and want to feel good for! So when you're deciding on that second piece of pie, you'll think...wait...I want to look good in my yoga pants tomorrow!
.8) Walk It Off
You know how you see lots of families taking a post Thanksgiving Feast stroll? This is a fantastic idea! Fresh air, exercise...Make sure you're walking FAST or uphill and you'll burn even more calories :)
.9) No Late Night Snack Attacks
Insanely hungry for Thanksgiving leftovers at midnight? Stop!! Take a deep breath. Respect yourself in the morning. Eat some fruit or something light, just a little to curb your appetite, and take your well behaved self to bed. Whew!! Late night Calorie Crisis averted...
10) Forgive Yourself & Feel the Love
Does everyone overeat at Thanksgiving? Does everyone feel stuffed, bloated, fat and guilty the next day? Yes, pretty much. So forgive yourself. Know that this holiday is really about sharing abundance with loved ones and giving thanks. It's ok to gobble a little too much abundance sometimes! You can always try to eat less next Thanksgiving :)
Think only POSITIVE thoughts about yourself, praise yourself, and visualize yourself at your perfect weight
